Choosing a Male vs. Female Puppy
We love ALL of
our puppies, but are frequently asked the question, "What are the pros and cons of a male vs. a female puppy/dog?"
Based on our experiences, these are our general conclusions, however, there normally are exceptions to every rule.
Temperment - Males tend to be more affectionate, whereas females are more cat-like, only wanting
attention when THEY want it.
Energy - Males tend to be more energetic and
playful even into adulthood, whereas a female becomes more reserved with age.
- Females tend to be easier to train as they are normally more focused, but males are normally very eager to please once distractions
Children - Females tend to be more nurturing and protective of children,
whereas a male may tend to get too rough at playtime.
Second Dog - It is normally
better to get a puppy/dog of the opposite gender to prevent aggressive behavior.
a general rule, choosing a male or female puppy is more of a personal perference. The choice should be based on
the connection you feel with a particular puppy more than anything else.
